Bonita (alternative controller game)
Bonita is an alternative controller game where the player controls a drunk Barbie through the street at night.
Barbie would swish and swerve randomly to simulate drunken movement while the player uses a physical Barbie doll with rotating arms to guide and control the left and right movements. The goal is to reach the end without hitting the NPCs along the way.
The Controller
The game is meant to be played with a physical controller made by hacking a Barbie doll bust with rotating arms. Using an Arduino Nano and two potentionometers, the team was able to integrate the rotation of the arms as controllers for left and right movement.
For the purposes of an itch build, players are able to control the game using the A & D keys. Videos of the controller in action can be seen on this page.
Bonita was developed by a 4-man team:
Janne Nedamo @sukinichi: Controller Engineering, Level Design
Maja Milas @mayazmaya: Sound & Music Production, Art Production
Raghad Y.A. Alqawasma @raghadalqawasma: 2D and 3D Art Production
Alp Ertunga Elgün @Sayuri1: Design, Programming
This game is a project for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree: REPLAY Programme's 5th Experimental Playlab class. The theme for this project is Weird Input.
